Today was the first day of Convention activities; business sessions begin tomorrow. The Exhibit Hall opened at noon, and there was a joint session on Public Narrative, a way of articulating and encouraging mission within the Church, and an Orientation Session for the House of Deputies. This last was a real hoot, and gave a pretty accurate picture of what life on the floor of the House is often like. The evening was full of different activities, including Committee Meeting, a number of dinners, including the Church Periodicals Club's Foreign Bishop's dinner which I attended, and a baseball game for our Bishop and others from the Deputation.
With the arrival today of two Deputies, our Deputation is almost complete. Sadly, Nancy McReynolds' mother died unexpectedly early in the week, and Nancy will not be with us. The thoughts and prayers of the deputation go out to Nancy, her mother, and her family at this time. Nancy Igo will be arriving tomorrow to bring the Deputation to full strength.

| Last night, a few us watched the Texas Rangers lose to the California Angels. Maybe Bishops shouldn't cheer against the Angels. | I love the Exhibit Hall because of the glimpse it gives of the wonderful variety within our Church. |

| There is something for everyone, and no rigid 'party line'. | With always a few surprises. |

| The first meeting was introduced by the Secretary, Dr. Gregory "no slave to fashion" Straub.. | A highlight for we was meeting Bishop Holguin of the Dominican Republic. |
