Convention began today with a vengeance. There were two session of the House of Deputies, Eucharist with the Presiding Bishop celebrating and preaching, two or three Committee meetings for those of us on Committees, and an evening panel on the global economic crisis keynoted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams. I hope I am the only one of us who has a 7:00 AM Committee meeting tomorrow, but I suspect that I'm not. We also had our first round of protesters--not up to the Fred Phelps horror of Conventions past, but ugly enough in their own right--and there is still plenty of time for Fred to show up.
Nancy Igo arrived safely, so we are all here. It's a wonderful deputation, with conscientious and able folks in every position. I'm looking forward to the next several days together.

| The first business session was as unexciting as it was supposed to be; but things went smoothly. | The Presiding Bishop was the celebrant and preacher at the first Eucharist. |

| And the service had a something for everyone. | We left the beauty of the Eucharist to a very different sight. |

| When a Committee deals with sexuality, it still draws a big crowd. | It was much easier to see Archbishop Williams on the big screen than from across the room. |
